Marrow
A Site-specific Dance for Island Moving Company at the Steel Yard
About Marrow (2013)
Commissioned by Island Moving Company for The Steel Yard, Providence, RI
Marrow was commissioned by Island Moving Company's Open for Dancing series for the Steel Yard in Providence, RI. This site-specific dance created by Tom Pearson, Co-Artistic Director of Third Rail Projects, was set within various areas of the Steel Yard's industrial campus. Providence-based sculptor Bob Rizzo, and visual artists and fabricators Monica Shinn and Anna Shapiro (of The Steel Yard) collaborated with Tom on the visual and technical aspects of the work, incorporating, among other things, metal work and welding stations. This team of artists visually integrated the eclectic industrial arts landscape of the Yard into the performance. Third Rail Company members Roxanne Kidd and Zoë Schieber assisted and performed along with Island Moving Company members and members of the youth ensemble.
